Margaux Bouchegnies, known by the mononym Margaux, is a Seattle-born, Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter and bassist. A graduate of the New School in Manhattan, Margaux studied jazz and upright bass before majoring in poetry. This diverse background of creative study shows up brilliantly in her songs, which boast Beatles-esque chord movement and rhythmic melodies, with observant lyricism on themes of grief, relationships, and love. On the songwriter’s debut album Inside the Marble (2024, Massif Records), her thoughtful, focused production choices showcase her songs as individualized, lush experiences. Pay attention to the tone, movement, and harmony on tracks like “Ships” and “Picture It,” or dip back into her debut EP, More Brilliant Is the Hand that Throws the Coin (2019, Massif Records), for the rich instrumental interplay and pulsing rhythms of “Faced with Fire” or “Cave In.” Or, if you’re die hard for Emily Dickinson, Margaux 2023, Dickinsonian double release of “Everlasting Snow / Maple Loom” might be up your alley. Margaux is also a touring bassist for familiar indie-rockers like Allegra Krieger, Fenne Lily, and Katy Kirby. Expect full band, indie-rock excellence from Margaux at the Horn this Thursday, February 19th. Doors 8:30, show 9pm, with Ireland Bone opening!
